Terra’s own Tom Zimmermann and his team, “Porkulator,” participated in the 2nd Annual Vine Street BBQ competition on August 18th.
During this Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) Sanctioned BBQ competition 40 teams competed in four categories: Ribs, Chicken, Sauce, and Best Dish.
The teams used green eggs, cold smokers and repurposed whiskey barrels. None of the teams are ‘professional,’ making the event a true competition for the weekend warrior. The teams fired up their smokers before 7 AM and submitted their entries by 2:30 in the afternoon.
An estimated 3,500 people attended the competition throughout the course of the day to enjoy the food, bands, and beautiful weather. The Vine Street BBQ competition raised funds for the Maine Township Food Pantry, Avenues to Independence, and the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
In the end, Team Porkulator came in 4th place for chicken and 10th place overall. We are excited to see what they bring next year!
